Purchase Tips for Thermal Print Heads

1. Select the Right Print Head Specifications

Print heads are available in 58mm and 80mm models. Before purchasing, confirm the compatibility of the equipment with the specified size; for the same paper width, the screw holes of the brackets may vary. It is recommended to measure the length, width and pitch of the original print head. Additionally, be aware of whether the equipment uses 9V/12V or 24V voltage. This will affect the print density.

2. Compatibility of Instructions and Drivers

Most 58mm Receipt Thermal Print Heads on the market use the ESC/POS instruction set; some custom devices use proprietary instructions that cannot be plug-and-play. Make sure the motherboard supports the print head.

3. Print Lifespan and Print Quality

The nominal lifespan (such as 50km) is based on the test results under qualified thermal paper; poor thermal paper can scratch the heating surface, significantly shortening the lifespan and causing needle breakage.

Point density (commonly 8 points/mm for 58mm) determines the clarity of text and barcodes; poor print heads are prone to needle breakage and barcode scanning failure.

4. Installation and Protection Tips

The ceramic heating area is sensitive to static electricity. Do not touch the heating surface with your bare hands. It is recommended to wear anti-static gloves under the conditions. Do not scratch the heating layer with hard objects; only thermal paper can be used, and ordinary white paper cannot be printed.

When is it necessary to replace the print head?

1. The fixed vertical lines appear on the small ticket when printing. Even after alcohol cleaning, the white lines still remain, indicating that the heating point has burned out and cannot be repaired.

2. The overall printing color is too light: even after increasing the printing concentration and replacing with brand new thermal paper, it remains very light.

3. The barcode cannot be scanned: the heating is uneven, and the barcode pattern is incomplete.

4. There are missing characters or lines at the fixed position, and the problem persists even after cleaning the rubber roller.

Note: Regularly clean the print head. Dirt on the print head and wear of the rubber roller can also cause similar faults. In this case, replacing the print head is not necessary.
